UNFPA in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Red Cross of Kosovo is implementing the Project: Minimum Initial Package of Services (MISP) for Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) in the seven municipalities of Kosovo. MISP is a comprehensive system which contains a series of life-saving activities that are necessary to ensure the institutional readiness to respond to the sexual and reproductive health needs of populations in the event of humanitarian crises or various emergencies. If neglected, these needs can have potentially threatening consequences and the health and emergency system needs to be adequately prepared.

On March 21, a meeting was held with the management staff of seven (7) municipalities where the project is implemented: Prishtina, Ferizaj, Fushë Kosovë, Gjakova, Podujevë, Malisheva and Kamenica. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the MISP, its importance in emergency situations, advocating on the importance of SRH, identifying key issues in maternal and infant health services, how to discuss access to key instruments and resources for MISP when necessary.

Dr. Albana Morina, Head of the Primary Health Care Division of the Ministry of Health informed about all project plans in the coming period, especially for the continuation of MISP training for health professionals in these seven municipalities.

Burim Seferi, Disaster Management&Volunteering Coordinator, Red Cross Kosovo noted the importance of the project for Kosovo: "After any disaster it is necessary to take certain emergency response actions, in order to protect and improve the health and well-being of women, children and adolescents and to reduce mortality and morbidity in the crisis-affected population ".

UNFPA welcomes the progress of the project and welcomes further cooperation with partners in continuing to build the MISP system in Kosovo.
