Marked annually on 11 July, the World Population Day aims to raise awareness of global population issues. This year, we want to make it all about gender equality and peacebuilding, two of the fundamentals of effective demographic resilience policies across the globe.

With that in mind, we made a documentary that we launched precisely on World Population Day at Kino Armata in Pristina, jointly with our partners from the SIT - Center for Counseling, Social Services and Research. The film paints a picture of the diverse societal benefits of contemporary demographic and gender equality policies, the likes of which we promote in Kosovo together with our partners from the institutions, civil society, and media.

Beyond the film, we were happy to host distinguished speakers, such as Edi Gusia, the CEO of the Kosovo Gender Equality Agency, Majlindë Sinani Lulaj. the Deputy Ombudsperson in Kosovo, and journalist Erlinë Koca.

Our Head of Office Visare Mujko-Nimani was also there to outline the comprehensive and diverse work, achievements and expected milestones on demographic resilience, peacebuilding, and gender equality that UNFPA and partners cover in Kosovo. Among her key messages was that “this World Population Day is a reminder that we can achieve the prosperous, peaceful and sustainable future if we harness the power of every human being. UNFPA stands with all of the 8 billion people, so that they may claim their rights and make their own choices. Only that will lead to a future that will bring peace, equality and prosperity to us all.”
