May 5 - the world marked the International Day of Midwives. On this occasion, UNFPA supported the Association of Midwives of Kosovo through the event which was organized with the motto "100 years of progress", during which the achievements, challenges and goals for the development of the profession of midwives in Kosovo were discussed. On this occasion, the documentary "A life for a life" was shown, which brought the story of the hard work of midwives during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Today, International Mother's Day is celebrated in more than 50 countries around the globe. Midwives are essential to preventing maternal and newborn deaths. The contributions that midwives have to make to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and Universal Health Coverage cannot be overestimated. Midwives have strengthened Primary Health Care for decades, acting as a critical link between women and the health system and making pregnancy and childbirth safer." - emphasized Dr. Visare Mujko-Nimani, head of the UNFPA office in Kosovo.

Also, within the framework of this note, the reproductive health of persons with disabilities in Kosovo and the role of midwives was discussed, which is related to the announcement of the year 2022 by the Government of Kosovo - Year of Persons with Disabilities in Kosovo
