16 Days of Activism to Eliminate Violence Against Women

calendar_today 26 November 2012

16 Days of Activism is a public awareness campaign where UN agencies, other international organizations, government, and NGOs come together to End Violence against Women starting on 25th November on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

“The impact of violence, and especially rape and other forms of sexual violence are often devastating both physically and emotionally. Consequences may include injuries, unintended pregnancies, and HIV/AIDS. Damage to mental health may lead to anxiety, post-traumatic stress, depression, and suicide. Social consequences include stigmatization and ostracizing by families and communities.” states Executive Director Babatunde Osotimehin in his Message for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

He also highlights UNFPA mandate and solid frameworks to support work on the violence elimination by reaching vulnerable and affected women and girls in communities and promoting policies and laws that address all forms of violence against women and girls, including the involvement of men and boys.

UNFPA Kosovo with its partners has prepared following activities to eliminate violence against women:
