UNFPA office in Kosovo through its implementing partners Peer Educators Network (PEN) and Health for All and in close collaboration with other international organizations has marked the Family day on May 15th 2015. In this occasion different activities were organized including: panel discussion with youth and parents, TV programme, exhibition with family pictures, and a theatre play presenting the equal role of both parents in the family. All the activities were focused on the global theme for 2015: Men in Charge? Gender Equality and Children’s Rights in Contemporary Families.
Ms. Visare Mujko Nimani, UNFPA Representative Assistant highlighted how the role of fathers has changed compared to previous generations, taking into account the conservative traditions of the Kosovo society. While fathers were hesitating to even talk to their children, now they play an important role when it comes to their children’s care. There is progress, but there is still much to be done in men’s encouragement to take more responsibilities for taking care of their children. She also stated that UNFPA office in Kosovo will continue to support initiatives and activities that promote healthy families and gender equality.
