UNFPA office in Kosovo in close collaboration with WHO and in partnership with the Association of Kosovo Midwives has marked the Midwives’ day on May 5th 2015. On this occasion a roundtable discussion has been organized, with participation of high level officers from the Ministry of health, midwives and other health professionals.

On this occasion Dr. Zarife Miftari, Program Coordinator at UNFPA presented the achievements through continuous contribution in supporting mothers and newborns health in Kosovo.  She stated that while important progress has been made towards the vision to reduce all preventable maternal and newborn deaths, there is still unfinished business and new challenges that need attention as we transition the MDGs to the new Sustainable Development Goals. It was also emphasized that the role of midwife’s is crucial for mothers and newborns, therefore UNFPA will continue to empower the role of midwifes and contribute to advancing the health services according to the international standards.
